Lakes in Leeds

Leeds plenty to offer for those that enjoy visiting lakes and water spots. There are a range of outdoor lakes that are both man-made and natural reserves of water. These offer the chance for people to view nature and take part in fun activities like water sports.

Man made outdoor lakes include examples like Roundhay Park’s Waterloo Lake which was built by soldiers after their return from the Napoleonic Wars after the Battle of Waterloo. St Aidan’s used to be an open cast mine. These lakes make for rich and diverse nature reserves. Bursting with wildlife like migrating birds making for a great place to bird watch in hides. Lakes like the one at Yeadon Tarn offers numerous water sports activities to sign up to too. Some activities available being windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding.
