Ponds are some of the most thriving ecosystems we have of undisturbed wildlife in Leeds. Yet, many of these naturally occurring ponds are gradually disappearing. Visiting a pond in one of Leeds’ parks will bring you closer to the amazing natural habitats that are on our doorstep in the city.
Many of the ponds in Leeds Park are buried and hidden in and amongst the greenery so it may take you a little longer to reveal these beautiful spots.
Get closer to the wildlife below the surface with some simple equipment to reveal what there is. A net, tray and some spoons can reveal a host of creatures including caddisfly larvae, water boatman, dragonfly nymphs, water scorpions, and water froglets hidden below the waterline.
Some of the ponds are legal fishing spots that may be stocked with perch, roach, tench, carp and even eels. All you need to fish is an up-to-date rod license.
