Whitkirk Field is a sport and recreation green space that hosts football, cricket and bowls. You can play with a club or socially with your friends.

The vast green space also makes for a great dog walking area.

Location

Whitkirk is a suburb of east Leeds. It is situated between Colton to the south-east and Halton to the south-west. The Temple Newsam estate lies directly south of the field.

Things to Do

Dog Walking

When people aren’t using the sport pitches the extensive field space makes for a great dog walk. Bear in mind that dog waste bins are few and far between.

Picnics

When the weather suits. This lovely stretch of grass is ideal for family picnics or alfresco lunches. With the opportunity to get some games going afterwards this spot is perfect for a family.

Football

Football is played here on 5-full-sized adult grass football pitches and 2-junior-sized grass pitches. Whitkirk Football Club play their home games here!

Cricket

The Whitkirk Cricket Club is an all-age club. The marked wicket is suitable for a range of ages  from children to adults. A range of age teams play in a safe and supportive environment.

Lawn Bowling

The lawn bowling club is an established group that always welcomes new members of any age or ability who wish to bowl socially or competitively. You can use the well maintained facilities as part of the Whitkirk Sports Club complex.

Temple Newsam

Whitkirk Field is lovely to walk through on the way to Temple Newsam which adjoins the green space.

Temple Newsam has a wide range of opportunities including a manor house, farm, parks and lakes, gardens; some free entry and some at a cost!

History

Whitkirk’s history began as an independent settlement which was completely absorbed into the greater urban area of Leeds in the middle of the 20th century.

Whitkirk Football Club who play their games on the field were formed in 1938.

Amenities

The nearest toilet is at Whitkirk Club located on the edge of Whitkirk Field – check the opening times for access.

There are benches located around the green space. Dog waste bins are limited.

Food and Drink

The nearest place to grab something to eat is a 10-minute walk away at the Brown Cow – they serve typical pub fayre, and have a real log fire to warm up in front of.

Parking

There are spaces for up to 15-cars at Whitkirk Club, LS15 0AA (Google Map Directions)

Access

The field can get waterlogged after heavy rain.

A paved path suitable for a wheelchair user runs around the top and bottom green space.
