Tennis

The Springhead Park public tennis court site has 4 floodlit hard courts which are free to access throughout the year! These tennis courts are located in a busy part of the park and are fully accessible for anyone wanting to play tennis including full-time wheelchair users. The car park is located within 100 yards from the courts and the toilet facilities are inclusive and accessible via the café located next to the court entrance.

Do I need to book a tennis court?

It’s free to use the tennis court but you will need to book a court space on the LTA clubspark website.

Skate Park

Located alongside the Pavilion Café, the Springhead Park skate park features a 1.4-metre quarter pipe, flat bank hip, Miami bank, pump bump and down hubba suitable for skateboarders, roller skaters, in-line skaters, BMX riders and scooter riders.

Walk-Run

There is plenty of space for a walk, or run at this park. The far end of the park is secluded and a good place to get lost in your thoughts.

If you prefer a bit of a challenge and a race, there is a weekly Saturday parkrun at Springhead Park. The Rothwell parkrun is a 5km route that loops the park 2 and a half times. Not a bad way to start the weekend!

Play Area

There are 3 different playgrounds catering for different age groups for children. These are located just up from the bowling green, in the main section of the park.

Bowling

There is one crown green bowling pitch; the ground is played on by Rothwell Bowling Club.

Gardens

Dementia Friendly Rothwell, in association with Leeds City Council have researched, fundraised and created the first dementia friendly garden in a Springhead park. The garden includes scented and colourful planting at ground level and raised beds, plenty of new benches and handrails, as well as wide paved accessible paths. The aviary has been spruced up and was looking and sounding great with lots of brightly coloured birds.

History

Springhead Park was originally called Rothwell Public Park, and was created between 1935 and 1937.

The western end was created with a grant from the West Yorkshire Joint District Miners Welfare Committee and opened in 1935. It provided tennis courts, a children’s play ground and a bowling green from 1936. The eastern end of the park was funded by the Yorkshire Miners Union and opened in 1937.

Amenities

There are bins dotted around the park, as well as benches.

Toilets can be found at The Pavilion café, towards the bottom left of the park next to the tennis courts.

Food and Drink

There is a on site café called The Pavilion. It is open 7-days a week serving homemade food as well as a selection of warm and cold drinks. The café has indoor and outdoor seating and sells refreshments, breakfasts and light lunches.

If you are  looking for a pub, we would recommend going a bit further to the The Three Horse Shoes.

Parking

There is on site car parking located just off Oulton Lane. Postcode LS26 0EA (Google Map Link)

Access

Springhead Park is an open access park with no steps, gates or stiles to negotiate. The paths and trails that crisscross the green space are in part suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There is a range of options for different walking distances.
