Things to Do

Sovereign Square Park is an oasis of calm to rest up in. It is part of a series of interlinked spaces connecting the South Bank development with the city centre park.

The park has become a popular destination that attracts businesses and people seeking a moment away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Take a break

There’s plenty of greenspace and wooden benches that mark the boundary of the edge of the park to sit on. And in summer they normally put out deck chairs for people to lounge back in and socialise with friends.

Picnic

The park space is a generously sized sun trap considering how built up the city centre is looking. As you’re not in close proximity sucking car fumes; we reckon you’d get away with bringing a blanket and picnic to enjoy here!

Dog Walking

Sovereign Square Park is a dog friendly space. Lots of dog walkers who live in the surrounding accommodation. There is even a waterflow that makes for an ideal spot for the dog to drink out of.

History

The new square has come a long way from its previous life as a pay and display car park.

The architect designers took creative inspiration from the surrounding architecture. Historically it is heavily rooted in the textile and merchandising industry that boomed in 19th century Leeds.

Sovereign Square Park is situated on the line of an old water channel from the River Aire that powered the industrial mills back in the day.

Amenities

The nearest public toilet can be found on the edge of the park on the Sovereign Street side at Café Nero.

There are rubbish bins in Sovereign Square Park.

Food and Drink

For a drink you could pop next door to North Taproom: Sovereign Street. On tap is a range of craft beers with names like piñata summer, field recordings (a strong imperial stout), and TFG: hibiscus, guava and Lemon!

For something to eat check-out Little Bao Boy for some fresh handmade filled bao buns with a choice of  spicy braised veggies or meat.

Parking

The nearest parking is paid at Q-Park Sovereign Square, LS1 4AG (Google Map Directions) – the hourly rates are expensive.
