Oak Road Recreational is a small urban green space in Armley next to HMP Prison Leeds; split in half by a residential road and housing cluster.

Location
Armley is a largely working class area of the inner-west of Leeds. There is a mix of industrial business and terrace housing.
Oak Road Recreational Ground is next to HM Prison Leeds, a category B men’s prison. The name of the park is taken from the distinctive oak trees dotted around the green space.
Things to Do
Football
In the centre of the park next to the prison perimeter is the multi-use-games-area. A marked five-a-side football pitch suitable for small skillful games of Brazilian style futsal is available.
MUGA
There is markings for a basketball pitch on the concrete multi-use-games-area. The outer fencing keeps the ball in play enabling the gameplay to stay quick and exciting.
Jigsaw Visitor Centre
Jigsaw Visitor Centre is a specialist prison intervention space that delivers play activities and organises special family visits. These interventions are designed to to help prisoners and families make positive choices for their wellbeing outcomes.

History
Oak Road Recreation Ground is locally known as ‘Jaily Fields’, taken from HM Prison Leeds located directly adjacent to the park. The park – Oak Road Recreational Ground – takes its official name from the oak trees planted in the park.
HM Prison Leeds opened in 1847, historically named ‘Armley Goal’, and built from locally quarried stone.

The nearest toilet is over the road at Starbucks.
There are public bins in the park.
Food and Drink
Wild Childe Brewing Company has a taproom you can sit down and enjoy a beer in just around the corner from the park.
TGI Fridays on Leeds Wellington Street – serving up American diner food – is a 5-minute drive from Oak Road Recreational Ground.
