Hunslet is an inner city area of Leeds. It’s 1-mile south east of the city centre.

The playground on the edge of the recreation ground has your usual favourites including slides, swings and different climbing bits.

Games

The grass pitches make up the majority of the recreation ground. These open green spaces are perfect for ball games, kite flying or simply lounging about in the sun on the grass.

Events

Hunslet Community Gala

Every June the recreation ground plays host to the Hunslet Community Gala. On offer are a range of attractions, including: dance; orchestra; stalls; inflatables; and small rides. For the latest gala information keep tabs on the Hunslet Festival website.

History

The famous brewer Joshua Tetley and Son setup their brewing business in Hunslet back in 1822. It’s be cheeky not to have a bitter after you’ve visited the park.

There a couple of benches to take a moment and chill on.

Dog waste and rubbish bins can be found the pathways throughout the recreation ground.

On a sunny day you need to pick out the most scenic part of the recreation ground and lay out a decent picnic.

Opposite the recreation ground on Church Street is the takeaway paradise restaurant. You can pickup your classic fast food options from here and enjoy it in the recreation ground. Walking a a little further north you’ll come across the nearest place to sit down and have a drink – Garden Gate has some really nice ale and a friendly atmosphere.

Park for free on the residential street of Grove Road (Google Map Directions).

Access

Grove Road Recreation Ground is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs.

It’s a 15-minute taxi journey from the centre of Leeds. Or a 30-minute bus journey to the edge of the recreation ground – jump on bus service numbers 12 and 13 to go direct to Grove Road.
