Things to Do

Zone into the grandstand panoramic easterly views across the breadth and width of Leeds city centre.

At the top of the hill there is a really informative information board telling you the names and distances of what you can see. If you have a camera, bring it!

Walks

West Leeds Walks facilitate short local group led health walks with friends in and around green spaces in the west of Leeds. One example is the West Leeds Green Gateways Trail: the route follows the Farnley Hall path, changing direction east at Lawns Lane over Cabbage Hill and beyond to the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

Cabbage Hill is also a great place to let your dog off the leash for a run around.

Wildflower Meadow

On Cabbage Hill there is a beautiful wild flower meadow. Amongst the blackberry bushes, field poppies and rose shrubs birds including goldfinches and siskins have made it their home.

History

Cabbage Hill got its name from the fact that people could only grow cabbages in the soil. In times past it was called ‘the Quarry’; the hill was actually a landfill for a claypit that supplied Wortley brickworks.
