Independent

The Roundhay sits on Roundhay Road in Oakwood, opposite Gipton Wood. This substantial 1930s brick-built pub trades as a Flaming Grill venue, Greene King’s grill-led sub-brand.

The grill is the centrepiece.

Burgers sizzle, ribs slow-cook for seven hours, and steaks land on hot skillets at the table. Inside, a spacious dining floor sits alongside a separate adults-only drinkers room with pool and darts. Sports screens run throughout. The vibe is buzzy and unpretentious, a neighbourhood local that leans into its strengths: generous flame-grilled food, cold draught beer, and family-friendly accessibility. New management arrived in late 2025, and reviewers have noticed the lift since.

Good place to go if you are looking for dinner and lunch.

There are gluten free, vegan friendly, and vegetarian friendly food options available.

The Food

From the Grill

The signature is the Korean Beef Rib. A seven-hour slow-cooked rib on the bone, glazed in Korean BBQ sauce and served with chips, corn and coleslaw. The meat falls off the bone with a faint smoky char from the flame grill. Steak skillets sit alongside, with 28-day-matured rump, sirloin and ribeye landing on hot pans with chips, peas and a grilled tomato.

Burgers and Skillets

The Philly Thrill stacks a flame-grilled beef burger with a 4oz rump steak and nacho cheese sauce. Brioche bun, fries and onion rings round it out. Hand-battered fish comes with chips and a choice of peas or mushy peas, a Friday fixture. Sizzling skillets land on the table loaded with steaks, mixed grills and gammon variants, the burner doing audible work as they arrive.

Stews and Desserts

Slow-stewed Jamaican chicken arrives in Datties Soul Food Academy jerk sauce with spicy rice and a soft flatbread. The Biscoff cheesecake closes things out: vanilla cheesecake on a caramelised Biscoff biscuit base, topped with Biscoff spread and a final scatter of crumb.

Vegetarian and vegan dishes appear throughout, and a separate no-gluten-containing menu is available on request. A dedicated kids menu and Sunday roast round out the offering.

The Drink

Beer

Greene King IPA pours from cask alongside a rotating Greene King cask ale, backed by 5-star Cask Marque accreditation. Madri Excepcional sits on draught.

Cocktails and Wine

The Jammy Gin Fizz mixes Beefeater Pink Strawberry Gin with Chambord and lemonade, served by glass or pitcher. Aperol Spritz sits alongside. The wine list spans French, Italian, Spanish and New World options, available by glass or bottle.

Non-Alcoholic

Three 0% cocktails feature, including the Pina Co-Nada with coconut, pineapple juice and lime.

The Place

Dining Floor

The 1930s building gives the dining floor generous height and volume. Fixed booth seating runs along the walls in patterned upholstery, with standard tables filling the open floor on a carpeted base. Warm ceiling downlights provide steady illumination throughout. Flaming Grill branded wall graphics with flame motifs and grill imagery punctuate walls in dark forest green and deep red. From some tables you can see into the kitchen.

Drinkers Room

A separate adults-only drinkers room sits off the main floor with a pool table and dartboard. The lighting reads darker and more traditional here, a quieter retreat from the family floor for those after a pint.

Sports and Garden

Sky Sports and TNT Sports run across multiple screens through the bar area, and the room fills around big fixtures with booking encouraged ahead. A beer garden sits to the rear with outdoor seating for warmer days.

The Location

The Roundhay sits on Roundhay Road in Oakwood, directly opposite Gipton Wood. The setting is suburban LS8 rather than city-centre Leeds, with bus routes thirty metres from the door and Roundhay Park within easy reach further north. The pub plays as a neighbourhood local rather than a destination venue, and Tesco sits just along the road for everyday convenience.

Where to Park

The pub has its own car park with disabled bays close to the entrance, making on-site parking straightforward. The Tesco car park on Roundhay Road sits a short walk away as an overflow option. For longer stays in the wider area, the main Roundhay Park car park sits on Princes Avenue. Charges run at £1 for two hours or £2.50 for four since February 2025. For most pub visits the on-site car park is the simplest option, with capacity for cars, coaches and accessible vehicles.

Access

The Roundhay is wheelchair accessible, with disabled parking bays in the on-site car park. Step-free access throughout the dining floor.

What To Do Next

After eating you can head north to Roundhay Park, one of the largest city parks in Europe. Lakes, gardens and woodland trails sit minutes from the door. Closer to the pub, Gipton Wood sits directly opposite for a quieter wander among mature trees. The wood is open all year and free to enter.

For coffee or a quick bite afterwards, Oakwood and Roundhay village have a steady run of independent cafes and bakeries within a short walk. Sunday afternoons at the pub include family entertainment from noon to four, slotted alongside the roast service. The kids menu runs free with an adult main from Monday to Friday during school holidays.

If sport is the draw, Premier League fixtures, Six Nations rugby, F1 and the darts all play across the screens. Booking ahead through the Greene King website is the safest bet for big fixtures. Tribute-act Music and Memories afternoons run periodically, with recent dates featuring Elvis and Neil Diamond.
