The Drink
The Chemic is stocked with a range of real ales ranging from the known Hobgoblin to less well known independent brews. There is something for a dark, pale or amber ale drinker here!
For the coeliacs or vegans the pub offers a decent selection of soft drinks or free from options.
If you fancy something a little stronger then keep an eye out for regular themed drinks nights – including cocktails! – showcasing the best whiskey, gin and rum from the bottle.
The Place
The Chemic get its name from a local factory (Johnstons Chemical Works) that produced Sulphuric Acid. Demolished in the 1890s the pub has continued trading, becoming an anchor of the local community. And in 2015, the Chemic was recognised as an ‘asset of community value’ by Leeds City Council.
The creativity and culture of those drinking in the pub is reflected in the shelves crammed with board games and books. It’s that kind of place where you can turn up with your own food and break open a game with your mates.
