Location

Springfield Mill Park is located on the edge of Morley, between Gildersome and Churwell. Although only a stones throw from the M621, you can barely hear it due to the strip of houses lining the top left side of the park. This makes Springwell Mill Park a welcome break from the hecticness of the city life.

Things to Do

Although Springfield Mill Park is small compared many of the other green spaces in Leeds, it is not without its perks.

Game of Football

The park has a set of goalposts on the main field, and it is pretty flat. Not a bad place for a spur of the moment 5-a-side, or a few of you with a bit to eat and a football!

Short walk with your kids

The children’s playground, and woods with the pond nearby makes this park a great place to go for a short walk ending at the swings! The climbing frame is a bit old, and could do with a new coat of paint – but the area is fairly large and fenced off. A good place to let the little one run around!

Picnic in the Sun

Springfield Park is a great place to have a picnic and watch the sun set. With plenty of grass/benches, and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Leeds – might be on to a hidden treasure here…

History

It is believed that Springfield gets its name from the fact that a spring of water rises there. This spring was dammed in the last century to create a millpond for Springfield Mills. When the mills were demolished, the dam was converted into the pond that can be found in Springfield Park.

Amenities

There are several benches around the park to enjoy the sun on, as well as a few bins. There are no toilets on site.

Food and Drink

There is not really anywhere to get any food or drink within walking distance to Springwell Mill Park. However a little further on Victoria Road there are is the Nelsons Fisheries, a fish and chips shop serving up some of the best in Morley. Directly next door is the Nelsons Arms, a local pub with a great selection of beers.

If you are wanting something to eat in the park, you could grab a sandwich from The Full Money a little further up the road. Or maybe get a picnic from the Morley Morrisons?

Parking

There is no specific parking area for Springfield Mill Park, but there are a number of residental roads which has ample space to park your car.

Our first choice would be at the end of Springfield Lane, as this then connects to the park. Postcode is LS27 9PQ – Google Maps Link.

If there is no space there, head around to Hargreaves Close where there is a small amount of on-street parking space. Postcode is LS27 9TE – Google Map Link.

Access

The park has tarmac footpaths which lead from the four corners and are wheehair/pushchair friendly. The grass is generally suitable for wheelchairs, but we recommend taking care after it has rained as it can get fairly muddy and the surface isn’t the flattest.
