Pitta Fan brings a taste of Athens to Oakwood’s Roundhay Road. What started as a small Greek takeaway in 2022 has grown into a lively dine-in taverna, expanding into the adjacent unit in late 2023 to add a full bar and table service.
Open seven days a week from morning until late, the kitchen serves authentic Greek street food alongside slow-cooked traditional plates in a colourful, high-energy space.
Tucked among the independent shops of this popular residential suburb — and just minutes from Roundhay Park — Pitta Fan has quickly become Oakwood’s go-to for a proper Greek feed.
There are vegan friendly, and vegetarian friendly food options available.

Take a look around
The Food
The menu at Pitta Fan stretches well beyond the souvlaki counter. Warm pitta wraps form the backbone — chicken gyros, pork souvlaki, lamb kebab, halloumi and homemade falafel all come stuffed with tzatziki, onions, tomatoes and chips. The Triple Decker Wrap layers chicken gyros with falafel and halloumi for those who refuse to choose.
Portion plates step things up, with marinated souvlaki skewers, fresh lamb mince kebab with Greek herbs and peppers, and grilled pork pancetta all arriving alongside pitta, chips, tzatziki and mixed salad. The Mixed Grill — pork gyros, chicken souvlaki, lamb kebab and lamb chops on a single platter — is a popular option for sharing, available for one, two or three.
Traditional dishes bring the taverna side of the kitchen to the fore. Beef moussaka layers aubergine, courgette and potato with minced beef and bechamel, while lamb kleftiko slow-roasts a whole shank with potatoes, vegetables and feta. Beef stifado simmers in red wine sauce with shallots, cloves and allspice — the kind of dish that rewards a longer sit-down.
Starters hold their own, too. Deep-fried feta in filo pastry arrives drizzled with honey and sesame seeds, dolmades come stuffed with rice, mint and lemon juice, and the calamari is served golden with tartare sauce. Vegetarian and vegan options run through the entire menu, from the falafel wrap and halloumi burger to a dedicated vegetarian moussaka.
For dessert, the homemade baklava and portokalopita — an orange-flavoured cake soaked in syrup — round things off with something sweet. Greek pastries like spanakopita and bugatsa are also available, alongside a show-stopping waffle loaded with Nutella, strawberries, banana and Ferrero Rocher.

The Drink
The bar at Pitta Fan pours beer, wine and cocktails — a full drinks programme that arrived with the 2023 expansion. Greek lager Mythos sits alongside Moretti on the beer list, and the house white is a dry, flavourful Greek variety. Cocktails are mixed in-house by trained bartenders.
The non-alcoholic range is where Pitta Fan leans into its Greek identity. Freddo espresso, freddo cappuccino and classic frappé bring authentic Greek iced coffee to Oakwood, alongside a full hot drinks menu running from espresso to flat white. Eight milkshakes — including Biscoff, Kinder Bueno and Oreo — cater to the sweet-toothed, while Greek soft drinks from Loux and Amita offer lemon, orange, cherry and peach options you will not find in most Leeds cafes.
The Place
Bold orange walls hit you the moment you walk in. The dining area anchors around an exposed brick feature wall where the Pitta Fan logo sits in orange lettering beneath trailing ivy and greenery — a warm, unmistakably Mediterranean focal point. Distinctive geometric floor tiles in yellow, grey and white run underfoot, playful and eye-catching.
The bar area doubles down on colour and energy. A marble-effect stone counter lines one side, with a hanging wine glass rack overhead and bottles displayed on wooden shelving behind. Red LED strip lighting along the counter edge adds drama in the evenings. Wooden plank panelling on lower walls and booth backs, framed photographs, and small trailing plants soften the space without dampening its buzzy, sociable atmosphere. This is a lively taverna rather than a formal restaurant — the kind of place built for sharing plates and lingering over Greek coffee.
