The Food

Fuji Hiro serves a wide selection of traditional Japanese cuisine like noodles, ramen, dumplings, and curries. Popular dishes include the chilli beef ramen and chicken katsu curry. The chicken katsu curry features a crisp panko-breaded chicken thigh served alongside mildly spiced curry sauce and sticky rice.

The Drink

Fuji Hiro serves beers (Sapporo), sake and soft drinks like green tea. And like it is customary in Japan, the green tea is offered free.

The Place

Fuji Hiro has a relaxed, informal atmosphere with a café-style layout. The décor is simple, with glassy, dark-wood veneer, neutral walls, and smoked glass. Back in 1997, Fuji Hiro was the first Japanese restaurant to open in Leeds and more than two decades later it’s still going strong.

The intimate 40-cover restaurant is close to the Merrion Centre and decorated in traditional style with Japanese art adorning the walls and old sake bottles spread around the room.

Recent additions include a sushi bar, where an Itamae prepares maki, inside-out rolls, temaki, and sashimi fresh to order.

The venue attracts a diverse crowd of students, families, couples, and lone diners. With its no-frills ambiance, it’s a comfortable spot for gathering with friends or enjoying an affordable meal alone.

The Location

Fuji Hiro is located in the Merrion Centre in Leeds city centre. The restaurant is a short walk from Leeds train station and the First Direct Arena. It is also close to the shops and restaurants of the city centre.

The restaurant is situated next to Wade Lane and the Merrion Centre, which contains shops, restaurants and a cinema. It is also a few minutes walk from Millennium Square and Leeds Civic Hall.

Access

Fuji Hiro is wheelchair accessible. You will access the restaurant via the Merrion Centre which has level entry access points on Merrion Way and Wade Lane. These include both disability compliant elevators and escalators.
