Amazing Gyoza

The menu centres on handmade gyoza dumplings, available in three signature fillings: classic cabbage and pork, Korean-style spicy pork, and black pepper beef. Each order arrives freshly pan-fried or deep-fried, with a satisfying golden crisp giving way to tender, flavour-packed filling.

Beyond the dumplings, the bento boxes offer some of the strongest value on the menu. The chicken curry rice bento pairs deep-fried vegetarian gyoza with chicken karaage and a rich Japanese curry sauce over steamed rice, while the vegetable kakiage version swaps in crispy mixed-vegetable fritters for a fully vegan alternative.

Rice bowls add further depth. The gyudon — thinly sliced beef and tender onions in a savoury-sweet sauce over steamed rice — is a classic Japanese comfort dish, and the chicken karaage bowls come with either a warming curry sauce or a sticky teriyaki glaze.

Korean fried chicken forms a second pillar of the menu, with three distinct flavours on offer: Korean cheesy, soy and honey garlic, and sweet and spicy gochujang. Each portion comes as boneless pieces served alongside thin-cut chips. A Korean-style fish sausage corndog with gochujang sauce rounds out the street food selection, alongside lighter sides including edamame spring rolls, panko deep-fried shrimp, and apple spring rolls.

Vegetarian and vegan diners are well catered for, with clearly marked plant-based bento boxes and several meat-free sides.

Amazing Gyoza does not serve alcohol, but the drink selection stays true to the stall’s Japanese identity. Imported Japanese Ramune carbonated drinks are available in original and lychee flavours — the distinctive marble-sealed bottles are a fun match for the street food vibe. An unsweetened Japanese green tea offers a lighter, cleaner option to pair with richer dishes.

A deep green fascia with gold serif lettering announces the stall, flanked by a large red paper lantern printed with 餃子 (gyoza) kanji and a row of red banner flags strung across the top of the unit. A maneki-neko perches on the counter beside framed food photography, while Japanese packaged products line the upper shelves. Behind the blonde wood laminate counter, stainless steel cooking equipment and red LED accent lighting complete a compact but polished setup.

Seating is casual — a handful of folding bistro tables with slatted wooden tops and black metal-frame chairs sit directly in front of the stall, within the cream-walled, green-columned Victorian market hall. Natural light filters down from above, and the steady hum of Kirkgate Market’s foot traffic gives the space a lively, daytime energy.

Amazing Gyoza sits on Row 5 of Kirkgate Market, on the upper side of the market near the M&S clock and opposite Leeds Cookery School. The George Street entrance is the most direct way in. The stall can take a little finding — the venue itself acknowledges this — but the search is part of the charm. Kirkgate Market is a short walk from both Leeds bus station and Leeds railway station, placing it firmly in the heart of the city centre.
