Souvlaki skewers with pitta bread, Greek salad, fries, and tzatziki at Mistreci Leeds

Mistreci occupies a prominent spot on The Crescent at Hyde Park Corner, where the curved pavement overlooks Woodhouse Moor and the surrounding buzz of one of Leeds’ busiest student neighbourhoods. A bold navy blue shopfront and floor-to-ceiling windows announce the café from the street, its warm amber glow visible long before you reach the door.

The kitchen bridges two traditions — Greek street food and English café classics — running a dual-concept menu that keeps the place busy from morning through to late evening.

The Food

The heart of the menu is Greek street food, built around freshly grilled gyros and souvlaki wraps. The chicken gyros wrap — grilled chicken layered with chips, tomato, onion, cucumber, lettuce and tzatziki in pitta bread — is the signature order, while the mix yeeros wrap combines chicken and slow-cooked pork gyros in a single pitta with the same loaded fillings. For something with a smoky edge, the chicken souvlaki wrap swaps the gyros meat for a grilled skewer finished with smoked paprika. A wild boar sausage souvlaki wrap adds a distinctive option that sets the menu apart from the usual street-food line-up.

Every wrap has a box-portion counterpart for a bigger meal, and the mix grill box works as a sharing platter — pork souvlaki, chicken souvlaki, wild boar sausage, pork and chicken gyros, grilled halloumi, salad, tzatziki, tirokafteri and chips all on one tray.

Greek starters anchor the lighter end of the menu. Spanakopita brings spinach and feta wrapped in filo pastry, tyrokafteri offers a spicy whipped-feta dip with pitta, and the keftedakia — Greek beef meatballs served with mixed salad — round out the small plates. Homemade baklava, with its cinnamon-spiced walnut filling and honey syrup, closes the meal on a traditional note.

The Drink

Greek coffee specialities lead the drinks list and bridge the café’s two identities. The frape Greek — a classic Greek-style frappé, shaken to a thick foam and served over ice — is a staple of café culture across Greece, and Mistreci brings that tradition to Hyde Park Corner. Freddo cappuccino and freddo espresso round out the iced range, offering the kind of cold-coffee options rarely found outside specialist Mediterranean cafés in Leeds. Standard espresso, latte, cappuccino and hot chocolate cover the conventional coffee range, and tea is available for those who prefer it.

Cold drinks include Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, still and sparkling water, Red Bull and Juice Burst.

The Place

Floor-to-ceiling picture windows flood the interior with natural light during the day and frame the warm amber glow of globe pendant lights after dark. Inside, white walls and light honey-toned wood-laminate flooring keep the space bright and unfussy. Small square wooden tables seat two to four, with a mix of padded cream upholstered chairs and darker metal bistro-style seats scattered across a compact floor plan that holds roughly twenty to thirty covers.

A small potted tree near the window and a red Coca-Cola fridge on one side add to the relaxed, neighbourhood-café energy. Two to three pavement tables with bistro chairs sit outside the front, looking out across The Crescent toward Woodhouse Moor — a spot to catch the last of the afternoon light with a freddo in hand.

The venue fills quickly at weekends, drawing a predominantly student crowd from the surrounding Hyde Park area.

The Location

Hyde Park Corner sits at the edge of one of Leeds’ busiest student neighbourhoods, a short walk from the University of Leeds campus. The Crescent curves around the top of Woodhouse Moor, lined with cafés, bars and takeaways that cater to the area’s young, diverse population. Mistreci holds a prominent street-facing position on that curve, directly in front of the Hyde Park pub.
