Take a look around

The Food

Everything at Hyde is made fresh and homemade, with a menu built around all-day brunch. The signature cinnamon rolls — oversized, golden, and displayed in the front window — have already become a neighbourhood talking point.

Savoury options include the Veggie McHyde, a toasted bap loaded with avocado smash and vine tomatoes, and Avo Smash on Toast topped with crumbled feta and fresh basil. For something heartier, the Bloody Mary Beans on Toast is a firm menu staple that combines slow-cooked beans with a Bloody Mary kick.

Brunch spreads feature poached eggs with smoked salmon, fluffy pancakes, granola with pomegranate, and warm crumpets — a mix of sweet and savoury plates designed for sharing or settling in solo. Breakfast baps and acai bowls round out the lighter end of the menu.

For evening visits, the Picky Bits mixed plate brings together fresh sourdough with beef dripping butter and cashew cream cheese dip, house pickles and seasonal vegetables, pan con tomato, and a house party nut mix — ideal for pairing with drinks on a Thursday or Friday evening.

The Drink

Coffee takes centre stage during the day, with the house Hyde Blend roasted locally by Jolly Bean Roastery. Specialty coffee is the focus, alongside non-alcoholic options like house-made chocolate milk.

When the bar opens on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, the drinks list expands into seasonal cocktails — past highlights include Rhubarb and Apple Pie, Hyde Park Hold Up, and Hyde Irish Coffee. Happy Hour runs from 4pm to 7pm on Thursdays and Fridays.

The wine selection leans natural and vegan, with bottles like Orange New Theory White Lies from South Africa and Black Cottage Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Beer comes in cans from local breweries, including Bini Brew’s Eric the Seagull blackcurrant sour and Tartarus Beers’ Bogeyman DIPA. There is no draught beer — the focus stays on curated, independent producers. Champagne and wine by the glass are also available for those after something more celebratory.

The Place

Hyde occupies a single long, narrow room with a serving counter running along one side. Banquette seating lines the opposite wall in teal-green upholstery, paired with small dark round tables at a comfortable height. An exposed stone wall with warm amber LED backlighting gives the interior a cosy, cave-like warmth that transforms from bright and airy during the day — thanks to large street-level windows — to intimate and softly lit in the evenings.

A pink decorative step ladder doubles as a retail display, surrounded by plants and shelved products from independent makers: homeware, jewellery, artwork, and bags of the house coffee blend. Upstairs, a mini art gallery rotates work from local creatives including Buba Goods, RJ Heald Photography, and Ather Nox, while the co-working space hosts regular Billy No Mates sessions for freelancers every Thursday.

Outside, black powder-coated metal bistro chairs and small square tables sit on the pavement out front, while a courtyard at the back offers additional outdoor seating. The exterior itself is hard to miss — a vibrant pink, teal, and botanical mural by artist Adina Wykes covers the upper facade above the bold white “Hyde” lettering and pink “Cafe & Bar” signage.
