The Food

The signature lineup — dubbed the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted — anchors the menu with nine named burgers. The Louisville pairs two smashed 29-day aged beef patties with American cheese, pickles, lettuce and tomato on a sweet brioche bun, while the Hooyah Burger adds crispy streaky bacon and caramelised onions to the double-patty stack. For something heavier, the Rhino layers a beef and pork patty with bacon, a fried egg nested inside an onion ring, hash brown and sticky BBQ sauce on a seeded brioche.

Chicken takes centre stage with the Nashville, a crispy buttermilk chicken breast on brioche that you can fully customise with free extras, and the Nashville HOT, which coats the same chicken in a signature homemade hot sauce with ranch dressing. The Buffalo Ranch tosses buttermilk chicken in Hooyah’s own buffalo sauce with buttermilk ranch.

The vegan menu holds its own. The Area 51 features a Beyond Meat patty with Applewood vegan cheese, pickles and vegan brioche, and the Miami Chick’n uses panko-crumbed wheat-protein chick’n seasoned with Southern Louisiana spices alongside Applewood cheese and red onion.

Beyond the burgers, the build-your-own system offers eight steps of customisation — from bun choice (brioche, seeded, NYC bagel, tortilla wrap or vegan brioche) through patty, salad, cheese and sauce to premium level-up toppings like BBQ pulled pork and mozzarella sticks.

Loaded fries come in six styles: the Kentucky tops house or curly fries with crispy buttermilk chicken, nacho cheese, spring onion and sweet chilli; the Missouri piles on BBQ pulled pork with jalapeños and red slaw; and the Vegan Kentucky swaps in vegan chick’n and vegan cheese. Sides include tempura-battered onion rings, handmade pink slaw and Kansas chicken bites in sweet chilli or sticky BBQ marinade. A weekday lunch menu runs from noon to three, featuring quick-serve options like Mr Smash and Wrap Star. The kitchen also runs a rotating chef’s special that changes regularly — worth asking about when you visit.

The Drink

Hooyah pours its own house draft lager, Brew-Yah, brewed in collaboration with Leeds-based Kirkstall Brewery — a craft partnership that gives the bar a drink to match the food’s local credentials. Thursday pre-bookings come with a free draft beer as part of the venue’s Free Beer Thursday promotion.

The drinks offering is deliberately streamlined to match the food-forward concept. Milkshakes draw regular praise from visitors and make a natural pairing with the burgers and loaded fries. Standard soft drinks round out the non-alcoholic side for those after something lighter.

The Place

Dark, moody walls of exposed red brick set the tone inside Hooyah, framing a dining room dominated by a large graffiti-style street art mural in bold neon blues, greens and oranges. Warm amber pendant lights hang from the ceiling, casting pools of light over the tables, while a blue neon “HOOYAH” sign glows above the counter area — the room’s focal point alongside chrome Brew-Yah draft taps.

Vintage American automotive artwork and yellow neon signage above the ordering station reinforce the roadside Americana theme. The seating is casual — a mix of standard tables and chairs arranged canteen-style rather than formal table service. TV screens line the walls, and the glass-fronted entrance onto Albion Street gives the space a street-level energy that spills in from outside. On weekend evenings, the atmosphere runs loud and buzzy, with music competing against the chatter of a packed room. The venue has wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating throughout.

Where to Park

Q-Park Albion Street sits directly adjacent on Butts Court, open 24 hours — the most convenient option for drivers. NCP Leeds The Core on Albion Street is also within a short walk, closing at midnight.
