The Food

The menu at Chichini covers the full range of classic British cafe fare, anchored by a hearty full English breakfast featuring bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomato, hash brown, black pudding and baked beans, with toast served in a wicker bread basket alongside. The bacon sandwich alone has earned a reputation for its generous proportions, and a vegetable full breakfast provides a solid meat-free alternative.

Beyond breakfast, the menu stretches across hot sandwiches — bacon and egg, bacon sausage and egg, bacon and tomato among them — plus a pannini selection with a choice of brie, mozzarella or cheddar, including combinations like pesto and chicken or tomato and basil. Toasties run from cheese and tomato through to chicken, mozzarella, roast veg and onion on ciabatta. Jacket potatoes come loaded with fillings such as chilli con carne, tuna or egg mayo, and a range of omelettes rounds out the hot options.

The Zeeshan Specials section — named after the owner — adds a personal touch to the menu with items like chicken burger and chips, veggie burger and chips, and Canadian steak. Cold sandwiches cover both meat (ham, roast beef, chicken, salami) and vegetarian options (egg mayo, feta cheese, cottage cheese), while hummus and pitta offers a lighter bite. It is a menu built on generosity and honest portions rather than presentation.

The Drink

Chichini keeps its drinks offering straightforward and entirely non-alcoholic, fitting a daytime cafe that closes at five. The hot drinks range centres on tea, espresso and hot chocolate, with the broader coffee menu likely covering the usual cafe staples. It is the kind of place where a cup of tea comes without ceremony but exactly as you want it — and where coffees arrive accompanied by a Bourbon biscuit, a charming old-school touch that tells you everything about the cafe’s character.

Cold drinks cover a selection of branded soft drinks including Dr Pepper, Fanta Orange and Sprite, alongside other canned and bottled options. There is no alcohol on the menu, no cocktail list and no pretence of one — Chichini is a cafe through and through, and the drinks offering reflects that honest simplicity.

The Place

Inside, yellow mustard walls set a warm tone throughout the dining room. Dark wicker chairs sit around brown laminate tables — unmistakably old-school British cafe furniture that has earned its wear. A dark-stained wooden balustrade with turned Victorian-style spindles divides the space into sections, giving the room a sense of depth without closing it off.

Large front windows flood the room with natural daylight, while simple black pendant lights hang from the ceiling. A bookshelf stocked with well-thumbed books lines one wall, potted plants soften the corners, and a chalkboard menu board and wall clock complete the picture. A display counter near the entrance showcases cakes and pastries. The atmosphere is casually busy, unpretentious and genuinely lived-in — a space where character has accumulated over two decades rather than being designed to a brief.
