Western Flatts Cliff Park

Located a couple of miles south-west of Leeds city centre. The park covers 14- hectares, and is a mixture of hilly and flat terrain. Get to to the top of one of these hills and check out the birds-eye view of Leeds.

Football

The ground has two football pitches ready to use. One of these are regularly used by Mainline Social FC. To find out more check out their Facebook page.

Tennis

There are two unlit tennis courts that you can play on for free.

Do I need to book tennis?

It’s free and you don’t need to book to play. Simply turn up and play if it’s available and not in use.

MUGA

There is a full sized basketball court with nets. And markings to play small sided games of futsal football.

Running

With a bit of creativity using Fawcett Road and Green Hill Lane you can run a mile loop through and around the grounds. Or find the steepest hill and run up and down it. There’s plenty of running options at Western Flatts Cliff Park.

Bowls

At the top of the park you’ll find the bowls club with both an indoor and outdoor (crown green) pitch.

Playground

There’s swings, slides, and climbing frames ready to go for toddlers and children.

Rose Garden

If you like roses then you’ll love taking a seat in one that comes with a special assortment of them. Enjoy the selection that’s grown and presented each year.

Dog Walking

Western Flatts Cliff Park is great for walking dogs. If you want to let the pooch off the leash check out the enclosed garden area.

At the centre of Cliff Park’s history is Cliff House, also know as Western Flatts House a grade II protected building. Built in 1846 for a wealthy man called Joseph Cliff; notable features of the villa include a luxurious staircase and mosaic floor. Apparently, under the floor is a resting place of a famous racing horse.

By 1902 the land and the house had been gifted to the City of Leeds, and the recreation ground was born. This was soon to become our Western Flatts Cliff Park. From the 1960s to just before the millennium the house was a community special school. As of the 2000s the house has returned to private ownership, but unfortunately was seriously damaged resulting from an arson attack in 2017.

If you fancy a bite to eat and a drink these two eateries are our ace choices because they’re both on the doorstep of Western Flatts Cliff Park. To the north of the park you’ll find Dope Burger Leeds who are flipping some serious patties and rolling some of the finest hotdogs around. Every brioche bun is filled with a handmade steak patty straight from the pastures of Yorkshire. Boom!

If the dopest burgers aren’t your thing then head south of the park to The Hanover Arms Leeds. As expected, it’s a bread and butter Leeds pub. It’s got all your home comforts including a beer garden and big tv screens showing live sport.

Picnic

With unforgettable views over Leeds and specially curated rose gardens. Western Flatts Cliff Park is an ideal place for a picnic. Just find a spot and chow down.

The majority of Western Flatts Cliff Park footpaths are suitable for the majority of wheelchairs and pushchairs. Be careful when it rains as it gets muddy!

Bus

First Bus Leeds number 42 stops a 10-minute walk away from the park on Five Lane End. This one’s roughly a 30-minute journey in total. And bus number 81 goes direct to the parks doorstep from City Square in under 30-minutes.

Taxi

A taxi journey from Leeds city centre to Western Flatts Cliff Park takes around 20-minutes.
