Location

Rodley is a small village on the Leeds-Liverpool canal north west of the city centre. It is located exactly halfway between Leeds and Bradford.

Walking

On your doorstep are two walking routes that offer fantastic views for any walker. Following the waterways you can join the Leeds-Liverpool canal or the River Aire. Both of these options are ready made out and back walking routes. Just follow the waters edge and enjoy.

Dog Walking

Rodley Sports Ground is a really good place to walk your dogs because you can let them sprint free in the fields or paddle in the water.

Running

While the sporting facilities aren’t exactly a runners escape. You are on the doorstep of some of the best canal running in the city! Join the canal tow path and get going. Just remember however far you run out is what you’ll have to do on the return leg.

Cycling

Likewise, the canal presents you with a leisurely cycle route option. With more capability of going further on the bike we reckon you could leave the waterway and turn your ride into a route. Cycle south from the canal through places like Calverley and Farsley before returning back to Rodley Sports Ground.

Rodley Nature Reserve

Right on the doorstep of Rodley Sports Ground is The Rodley Nature Reserve. This wetland reserve was born in 1999 on an old sewage works. Come here to enjoy the numerous bird and flora habitats.

Cricket

A big part of Rodley Sports Ground is Rodley Cricket Club. The amateur  cricket outfit has been at the forefront of the grounds recent redevelopment, including the addition of the club house and bar. As clubs go Rodley CC are known for being really sociable and family orientated. Come and have a pint in the bar to find out for yourself. Football

Next to the cricket pitch is a full sized football pitch with fixed goal posts. The team FC West Leeds run four adult teams and a few football socials open to all. To find out more head to the FC West Leeds Facebook page.

History

Rodley gained its industrial calibre through the development of mills and a crane works that had international reputation in the late 19th century. With industry in decline the area has turned into a commuter hubs for Leeds and Bradford. And with that the want for people to enjoy more physical activity and recreational pursuits.

Amenities

Rodley Sports Ground has a fully stocked bar. It has changing rooms and toilets that are open to all those visiting.

Food and Drink

If you walk 10-minutes west along the canal you will come to the Rodley Barge. This pub is really friendly and welcoming to regulars and new punters alike. Come for a pint or bit of food. There’s also a quiz every week. A stones throw from the Barge is a Turkish restaurant called Ephesus. This restaurant is a snug little diner that rustles up a class meze or kebab. Come and sample something from a menu that has over 150 options.

Picnic

If you don’t want to venture out for a drink or some grub then you can just stay at Rodley Sports Ground. Take a bench or unroll a blanket to enjoy a picnic. And don’t forget you can pop into the cricket club bar for drinks and snacks.

Google Map Directions

Bus

Bus number 60 takes you from City Square direct to Rodley Town Street every hour. Alight from the bus just past Rodley Park, and walk the final 5-minutes over Moss Bridge Road to Rodley Sports Ground.

Taxi

At non-peak times a taxi journey will take you around 20-minutes from the centre of Leeds.
